The Center for Measurement Models Research, part of the Research &
Development Division is seeking outstanding junior- to senior-level
research
scientists with the following qualifications: a Ph.D. in psychometrics,
quantitative psychology, or statistics with an interest in applications
to
psychometric research. Staff in the Center for Measurement Models
explore,
develop, apply, and refine measurement models for immediate and future
use
for a wide range of assessments and products.
Candidates with interests, expertise and experience in psychometric
models
such as item response theory, structural equation models, multidimensional
scaling, hierarchical linear models, models which include consideration
of
cognitive theories, or in applications of modern statistical methods
of
estimation to testing and assessment are encouraged to apply.
The ability to report research results and to communicate effectively
with
the general public, public policy makers and test and other product
developers is important for these positions.
These positions require the ability to work in teams and to contribute
to
the planning for and the development of new products and services to
education and assessment, co-directing analyses, and psychometric consulting
on a broad range of problems throughout the organization as well as
maintaining an active program of basic and/or applied research.
Evidence of independent research experience is required as well as evidence
of scholarly work such as published research in the standard psychometric
and research journals.

The Center for Large-Scale Assessment, part of the Research & Development
Division, has an opening for a junior-level scientist position.
The
Research Scientist will be involved in the design and direction of
complex
scientific studies that arise in the context of large-scale assessments
such
as the National Assessment of Educational Progress. This position
involves
both working individually and in teams and contributing to the planning
for
and the development of new products and services to education and
assessment. It also includes co-directing analyses, and psychometric
or
evaluation consulting on a broad range of problems throughout the
organization, as well as maintaining an active program of basic and/or
applied research.
REQUIREMENTS
*
A doctoral degree in psychometrics, quantitative psychology,
or statistics with an interest in applications to large-scale assessment
and
psychometric research.

Specific knowledge in at least one of the following areas:
IRT scaling, equating, complex sampling, design of complex instruments,
missing data methodology, or differential item functioning procedures.
*
The ability to communicate effectively with the general
public and experts in public policy, test development and reporting
of
results, as well as statisticians, psychometricians and computer
programmers.

The ability to contribute to theory and/or practice of
statistical and psychometric procedures applicable to educational
assessment.

ETS is seeking an outstanding individual for the Analysis Group Leader
position in the Center for Statistical Analysis, part of the Research
&
Development Division.
The responsibilities of the Analysis Group Leader are as follows:
Provides overall direction and leadership for an Analysis Group. Has
full
knowledge and expertise in conducting statistical analyses for a variety
of
testing programs. Acts as advisor on measurement-related issues or
statistical systems and data analysis issues. Conducts statistical
systems
and data analysis planning work required for score reporting and data
interpretation for complex testing programs. Also provides overall
direction
to group of professionals conducting similar work as well as to support
staff. Assigns personnel to various projects and directs their activities.
Reviews and evaluates their work and prepares performance evaluations.
Makes
decisions on personnel activities for the group (hiring, terminations,
and
promotions). Confers with and advises group staff on administrative
policies
and procedures and on problems, procedures, and methods related to
statistical systems and data analysis. Establishes group goals and
action
plans in conjunction with division planning. Reports to Center Director.
Supervision exercised over a number of professional and support staff.
REQUIREMENTS
A Ph.D. in educational or psychological measurements and statistics,
educational psychology, or a closely related field.
Six years of increasingly professional experience, three of which must
be in
educational measurement or applied statistics.
